The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be awarding the asphalt contract next week for the extension of Loop 567 that will connect the Loop from Highway 51 to Business 377/Pearl Street, according to Precinct 4 Commissioner Steve Berry.
County officials had expected the stretch of roadway to be open by now, but Berry said that TxDOT officials blamed weather for the delay. Nevertheless, the projected opening in mid- to late-May will be within the original stated time frame, Berry said.
The commissioner said that 2 inches of asphalt will be poured on top of the chip seal.
Berry said he was told by a TxDOT official that the part of the Loop that connects to Business 377/Pearl Street intentionally looks more unfinished than the rest of the roadway. Highway officials were afraid that motorists would attempt to drive on the Loop connection before it is completed, Berry explained.
