The medical condition of the gyroplane pilot who was injured late Saturday morning while trying to take off from Bourland Field airstrip east of Cresson in Parker County was upgraded from “serious” to “fair” condition on Monday, according to a spokesman at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
William Don Hunthrop, 60, of Fort Worth, remained in the ICU with undisclosed injuries.
Lynn Lunsford, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration in North Texas, said that the aircraft “did not have enough power,” and the rotor blade struck the ground.
“The aircraft crashed approximately 10 feet to the side of the runway,” Lunsford noted.
