Granbury was the place to be to celebrate Texas Independence Day. The “March 2 Texas” celebration kicked off Saturday morning with a parade and live music with festivities running through Sunday on the square, Granbury Square Plaza and Langdon Cultural Center. There was no lack of interesting and entertaining participants in the long Texas Independence Day Parade around the square. These cowboys from Weatherford represent the mounted company of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Governor Samuel Lanham Camp. Lanham was the 23rd governor of Texas (1903-1907) who as a child of 15 volunteered to serve for the Confederate States Army. He and his wife moved to Texas and settled in Weatherford after the war. The newly organized Texas Heroes Foundation nonprofit sponsored the expanded celebration this year in an effort to pass on the “heritage of history.”
