October 23, 2013

The Granbury High School Pirate Band earned a Division I superior rating at the University Interscholastic League region marching competition Saturday at Burleson Stadium.

The “We the Living” marching show received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 4A and 5A groups on Saturday afternoon and early evening.

This year’s marching show features “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Gabriel Faure, “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” by Benjamin Britten, “The Farewell and Spectrum of the Sky” by Break the Reality, and some original material by William Pitt.

The band advances to the area competition Saturday at Pennington Field in Bedford. Granbury will march early at around 9 a.m., but the official performance time is not yet known. Of the approximately 24 bands taking part in the contest, at least four will qualify for state competition set for early November at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The band is under the field direction of drum majors Ashleen Atchue, Chase Rogers and Alissa Jillson.
