A bulldozer clears away ground during preparation for the new artificial turf on Johnny Perkins Field at Pirate Stadium. Work began recently on the project, estimated at a cost of nearly $1 million. It is expected to be ready in time for the start of the 2013 football season. The Pirates’ home opener is their second game of the season, on Sept. 6 against Fort Worth North Side. They also have home games against FW O.D. Wyatt (Oct. 4, homecoming), FW Southwest (Oct. 18) and FW Arlington Heights (Nov. 8). Granbury is seeking a fourth consecutive playoff berth.
