A Fox newscaster created a major stir last week when she claimed that Santa is white. But after what happened this week at the Granbury Walmart, perhaps we should be debating whether Santa is even male.
Walmart Manager Craig Rowland said that a woman came into the store Sunday evening with a $2,000 donation, which she asked be used to pay off Christmas toys in layaway.
“Of course, the lady wanted to remain anonymous,” he said.
Rowland said just before press time Tuesday that he had not yet been able to talk with the associates who were on duty when the woman came in, so he was not clear on all of the details.
However, he said that the woman’s generous donation may have been made even more significant by the fact that the deadline to pay off Christmas layaways had actually been on Friday – two days earlier.
It stands to reason, he said, that toys that were still waiting for pick-up might have gone unclaimed because of parents not having the money to pay the remainder of the bill.
Rowland said that the $2,000 paid off 21 Christmas layaways – all that were remaining, including those of “a couple of Walmart associates.” He said that the woman specifically stated that she wanted to include store employees in the payoff.
Some parents who may have been worried about the rapidly approaching holiday received phone calls Sunday night from Walmart associates bearing glad tidings. “They were very surprised,” Rowland said.
It was unknown whether the woman left the Walmart parking lot by vehicle or by sleigh.
