Mistakes while on probation earned a 33-year-old Dublin man a 15-year prison sentence last week.

Christopher Darrell Mercer was arrested on July 17 in Erath County on a Hood County warrant after a felony drug possession conviction.

Mercer, accused of taking part in the theft of about 800 pounds of copper wire from his former Erath County employer, was transported to Hood County. In the probation violation trial, District Judge Ralph Walton heard testimony from Mercer and a former co-worker, as well as a Stephenville police officer. Mercer lost his job at an Erath County business about two months ago after two batches of the wire went missing.

“He violated his probation by using drugs or alcohol and also by committing a new theft offense in Erath County,” Hood County District Attorney Rob Christian explained.
