A favorite restaurant for field trips and families on a budget has shut its doors.
The closing of CiCi’s Pizza at the Avalon Shopping Center off Highway 377 was confirmed Monday by Lake Granbury Area Economic Development Director Joey Grisham and Granbury health inspector Jeannie Johnson.
Both Grisham and Johnson said that new management had recently come on board and they were surprised when the buffet-style eatery suddenly closed.
Johnson said the new manager was “supposed to come in and get a new health permit,” but didn’t. She said that rumors have gone around that she shut the restaurant down, but those rumors aren’t true, she said.
Grisham said that what likely happened was a disagreement on lease terms. It’s a common problem, he said, when restaurants lease a building. He said that the loss of CiCi’s will be “tough” because the affordable family dining restaurant was the “anchor” in the Avalon shopping center.
Grisham said he hopes that CiCi’s will reappear in another location.
Johnson said that kids were often taken there for field trips or outings as a reward.
In other sad news, don’t get your hopes up for a big plate of IHOP’s Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity pancakes.
Though recently it had appeared as if the breakfast chain might come here, Grisham said that IHOP reps are now saying that Hood County has “too seasonal of a market. We just had our highest ever sales tax month in January,” he said. “They had a pretty sophisticated demographic study, but to say that a market is seasonal when the numbers don’t suggest that is just very unusual.
“But I haven’t given up on them.”
