It’s going to be a day at the races as the Granbury Chamber of Commerce takes on a Kentucky Derby theme Friday night.
Native Texan and Kentucky Derby winner Bill Casner is the guest speaker for the chamber’s banquet at Pecan Plantation. (It’s another sellout.)
Casner, a graduate of Tarleton State University, has an extensive background with horses, starting with a variety of jobs at horse tracks to put himself through college.
Later he and Kenny Trout founded the telecommunication giant Excel Communications, a long-distance service company. The pair then developed WinStar Farm, which has produced race winners in the Kentucky Derby, Dubai World Cup and others.
Also at the banquet, the annual Best of Business awards will be presented, and new officers will be installed.
The best “derby hat” contest will be featured at the banquet.
Incoming chairman of the board is John Lewis, of McGowan & Associates Investment Center.
Other board officers include:
Chair-elect Lee Overstreet, of Winston Properties.
