911, what is your emergency? Bring me … hiccup … some cigarettes … hiccup

February 16, 2013

It was funny, all right. Funny that someone thought it was funny.

A 48-year-old woman who lives in Oak Trail Shores called 911 at 1:18 a.m. Monday and informed a Hood County emergency dispatcher that she was out of cigarettes and needed to have some delivered to her home in the 3000 block of Beechwood Street, Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Johnny Rose said.

The woman was arrested and charged with 911 abuse, a Class B misdemeanor.

The woman was released from the Hood County Jail after posting $1,000 bond.

“Deputies discovered the woman was intoxicated and thought it was funny to call 911 for cigarettes,” Rose explained.

“Deputies and the dispatcher found no humor in her call and explained that delivering cigarettes was not in their job description, related to public safety.”
