Virginia Ann (Jan) Dyer lived a full and happy life before passing away on Nov. 25, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born on July 31, 1925 to Timothy Carl and Virginia Mitchell in Tolar. She graduated from Granbury High School, Class of 1942, and attended Tarleton University.
She spent her career as a secretary which she thoroughly enjoyed, but her greatest contribution to her family was that of a Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She married John Sherwood Dyer in Granbury on May 31, 1947. They moved to Decatur and Siloam Springs, Arkansas as John pursued his degree in Radio. After graduation they lived in Cleburne, and Stephenville before moving to Austin where they lived, worked and raised their family for 56 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, two brothers and her sister.
Virginia (Jan) is survived by her four children Sheralyn and her husband Lynn Nobles, Bob and his wife Belinda Dyer, Jacqueline and her husband Mike DeVault, and Mary and her husband Glenn Gielstra. She was known as Grandma or Grandmother to her beloved grandchildren Jonathan and his wife Julie Nobles, Michael and his wife Mandy Nobles, Heatherly and her husband Chris Bieze, Rebecca and her husband Cody Leach, James and his wife Kelly Dyer, Jason Dyer, Stephanie DeVault, and Serena Gielstra. She was known as Grandma or GG to her 14 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. Grace and Jordan Nobles, Kayla and Kevin Nobles, Addison, Cristiaan, Dustin, Jeremy, E.J., and Timothy Bieze, Lorelai Kimbler and Zoey Virginia Leach, Kiera and Hailey Dyer. She is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law, RoseMary Walthall.
Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at St. Austin Catholic Church, 2026 Guadalupe. Interment will be held in Tolar Cemetery in Tolar.
