Peter Haerle, Col. USAF Retired, of Granbury, passed away on Aug. 24, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
He is survived by his wife, Leta, his daughter, Lynda and her husband Mike, and his sons, Geoff and his wife Karen, Brad and his wife Heidi, and Wade and his wife Cindy. He had seven grandchildren, Lexie, Isabel, Stefan, Peyton, Evan, Katy and Luke.
Born in Portland, Oregon, he was a graduate of Yale University and earned a Master’s at the University of Oklahoma. He was married to Mary Ell Leta Smith, of Sulphur Bluff, Texas for 53 years. He was a decorated RF4 jet pilot for 26 years in the United States Air Force, serving his country in Southeast Asia . He was a professor of ROTC at Duke University.
He was a loving husband, beloved father, and a leader/mentor to an entire generation of military pilots and university students.
He was active in Granbury Kiwanis and the Hood County Jail Historical Society.
