Kenneth M. Niester 74, passed away March 12 in Sterling Heights, Mich. Ken was a longtime resident and business owner of Granbury prior to moving back to Michigan.
Ken was born in East Detroit, Mich. Sept. 11, 1939 to Henry and Dora Niester. He married Dorothy Hamelrath in 1958 and they had three children, Kathie, Dawn and Marty. Ken went into the family business as a butcher /sausage maker. He grew that business for 20+ years at which time he sold the business and relocated to Texas in part to pursue his passion for riding and showing cutting horses more often than he had in Michigan.
Ken married Nellie Menzel and together they owned and operated a successful restaurant/deli in Granbury, Niester’s Sausage/Nellie’s Deli. After many years they sold that business and sometime later moved back to Michigan.
Survivors: Ken is survived by his three children: Kathie McEntire, Bedford, TX, Dawn Sanders, Austin, Texas and Marty Niester of Gallup, New Mexico. Brother: Jerry Niester of West Palm Beach, Florida. five grandchildren: Kenny, Renee, Lilli, Joseph and Charly of Texas. Nieces and nephews: Donna, Sherrie and Jerry (Michigan/ Ohio). Partner: Nellie Niester and her son’s Walter and Mark Menzel, and their children Nikolai, Mason and Madison all of Michigan.
There will be a memorial service planned and announced to be held in the near future. The family would like to thank friends and family for all their support and love during this very difficult time.
