Janet was born Nov. 27, 1937, in Somerset, Ky., to William Raymond and Lena Sears Nichols. She attended Transylvania University where she met and married her best friend and loving husband of 54 years, Norman, in 1958. She later received her master’s degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University.
Janet was an outstanding educator and was named Teacher of the Year for the state of Kentucky. She devoted her life to helping children, especially those who were less fortunate. As the wife of a minister, she spent countless hours selflessly serving others. She went on mission trips to Central America and Kenya as well as numerous missions to humbly serve others in her community through teaching, tutoring and any other needs that arose. Serving the Lord with music was very important to Janet. She played the piano, sang in the choir, played and directed the bell choir and constantly filled her home with music.
Not only did Janet faithfully serve others through her teaching and ministries, but she was also a loving and patient mother to her four children, Mike, Mark, Carol and Cynthia. She approached motherhood with unfailing devotion, generosity, tenderness, calmness and love. Her poise and class in all situations were inspirations to others and the rock of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
