James Martin stepped into his eternal life on February 24, 2013. A celebration service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Granbury.
James was born in San Antonio, Texas to James and Annie Ray Martin, the oldest of four boys. He married Esmerelda Pesnell in 1941 and has been with her for the past 71 years.
He was a decorated veteran of WWII. Following his tour of duty, he and his wife settled in Pasadena, Texas and raised their 3 children. He worked as a research chemist for Shell Oil Company from which he retired in 1978. James and Esmerelda would then move to Athens, Texas and then to Granbury where they have resided for the past 16 years.
James was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and remained a faithful servant until the end. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be missed by all.
James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, H.G. “Pete” Martin, granddaughter Sally Ann Martin, and daughter Debbie Burden.
He is survived by his wife Esmerelda Martin, son Kenny Martin and wife Kathy, daughter Janie Lewis and husband Don, brothers Lamar Martin and Charles Ray Martin, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the scholarship fund at First Christian Church of Granbury or the Granbury Veterans Museum.
