Hasmer Counts of Granbury, 84, a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, physician and friend, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, after a prolonged illness.
Funeral: Dr. Count’s Celebration of life: 2 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013, at Granbury First United Methodist Church. Open visitation: Thursday, May 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas.

Hasmer “Jack” Counts was born on January 17, 1929, in Temple, Texas to Hap and Frieda Counts.
He graduated from Polytech High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean conflict. He then attended Texas Christian University and earned a degree in Biology. Dr. Counts went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas – Galveston Branch. He went on to do his internship at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
Dr. Counts opened his private practice in Handley, in Fort Worth. After several years, he moved his practice to Jacksboro, Texas. He also worked in Emergency Medicine, and later was the prison physician at John Lindsey State Jail. Dr. Counts had a true love for his patients and medicine.
Dr. Counts was chief of staff at Faith Community Hospital in Jacksboro. He was a member of the American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association (TMA), and he served as a TMA delegate. Dr. Counts was a 32nd degree Mason and was also a Shriner.
Dr. Counts continued to stay active in his retirement. In 2004, he worked in rural Kotzebue, Alaska, treating Native Americans north of the Arctic circle.
In 2005, he was a volunteer at Hurricane Katrina, and was awarded a commendation medal from the Army’s 82nd Air Borne Commander. Dr. Counts loved to travel and lived for adventures.
Survivors: Dorothy Jane Counts, wife; and Bobbie James Counts (brother). His children include: Dianne Sewell and husband, Ron; Sherry Conway and husband, Ian; Stephen Counts; Eric Counts and wife, Caroline; Chad Counts; James Counts and wife, Doria; Linda New, Sherri Counts-Chapman; Cheryl Jackson and husband, Danny; Gordon Gripp and wife Julie; Laura Shinefeld and husband, Tim; Russell Gripp and wife Sandy; and Leanne Hutcherson and husband, Michael. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
