Edgar Newton Eakin, age 81, of Electra, Texas passed away Feb. 9, 2013 in the Electra Memorial Hospital.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the First Baptist Church with Paul Winegeart, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
The family received friends from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Aulds Funeral Home.
Edgar, the youngest child of seven children, was born July 17, 1931 in the “Old” Electra Hospital to Davis Ray Eakin and Addie Louise Cooper Eakin. He attended the First Ward Elementary, Waggoner Junior High and graduated from Electra High School in 1948 and then attended mechanic school.
He and Georgia Crain were married Jan. 26, 1952 in Electra where they were lifetime residents.
Edgar worked with his father, Dave, at Eakin Garage until his death and then Edgar became the owner and operator of Eakin Garage from 1971 until his retirement in December 2008.
He was an avid hunter for elk, deer, antelope, and turkeys. He was one of the founders of the Electra Mule Riders, active member of the Electra Riding Club, Electra Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. Edgar was a member of the Electra Masonic Lodge for 50 years and had served as Worshipful Master. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Christy Massey and husband, Mike of Granbury; three grandsons, Jason Massey of Dallas, Riley Massey and wife, Jordan of Dallas, and Paul Massey and wife, Michelle of Granbury; three great-grandchildren, Michaela, Justin and Julian Massey; two sisters, Vertie Jansen of Archer City, Texas, and Nina Beavers of Marlow, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Georgia on Jan. 29, 2010; three sisters, Anna Eakin, Fern Orr, Marion Bowery; and one brother, D.R. “Doc” Eakin.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Beavers, Tom Bettes, Jason Massey, Paul Massey, Riley Massey and Kenneth Orr.
