Dennis Glenn Boll was born on April 3, 1947 in Hutchinson, Minn. to Glenn and Dorothy (Brandert) Boll, and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian, Minn.

He started school in a one-room schoolhouse in Fahlun Township, Kandiyohi County, and continued his elementary education in Lake Lillian, graduating in 1965 from Atwater High School in Atwater, Minn.

High school activities included all sports, he was co-captain of the football team, president of the FFA, and involved in his church. He enrolled at the University of Minnesota, Morris, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. While at Morris, Dennis was co-captain of the football team and president of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Signal Corp of the U.S. Army. In 1970 he married Lynne Salonen, also a graduate of UMM, in Keewatin, Minn. Dennis trained in electronics, specializing in computer repair, signals, communications, and crypto equipment at Fort Monmouth, NJ, and served in Bangkok, Thailand. He was honorably discharged in 1973, receiving the Army Commendation medal for meritorious service.

He began working with Burlington Northern Railroad in 1973 as a computer technician, and in 1977 joined the BN management team. At the time of the BN and Santa Fe merger in 1995, he was promoted to Asst. Vice President, Signals. He retired from the railroad in 2006 and formed Integrated Signal Consulting, continuing his involvement with the challenges facing the railroad industry.

With his three sons, he was involved in scouting, and little league football and baseball. After retirement, he and Lynne established a summer home in Spicer, Minn., where he volunteered at the Green Lake Bible Camp and loved farming with his brother and nephew on the home farm.

In Texas he sang in the church choir and with Granbury Civic Chorus. He drove the bus for Brandon’s Hope and the senior citizens from the Granbury First United Methodist Church and Trinity Mission.

He was a member of the Southwest Signal Engineers; AREMA; the American Legion and the Willmar Car Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cruising in his 1970 Dodge Super Bee.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne; three sons, Christopher (Heather) of Sammamish, Wa., Justin (Jennifer) of Louisville, Co., and Brian (Megan) of Elk River, Minn.; six grandchildren, Skylar, Connor, Aidan, Parker, Jackson and Emily; two brothers, Donald (Barb) of Lake Lillian, Rollie (Judy) of Willmar, Minn. and two sisters, Sharleen (Rolf) Berg of Sherman, Texas and Emilie (Terry) Mikes of Willmar, Minn.; five nieces, six nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Dorothy Boll.

Denny was a good man, who was loved by many and will be missed by all.
