Darrell H. “The Slingshot Man” Harris, 98, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Granbury.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Lost Creek Cemetery in Brown County, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Morgan Mill, to Jesse and Bessie Howard Harris. He married Billie Orr, May 15, 1937, in Comanche.
Darrell was a machinist in a tool and dye company. He took pride in the fact he could build almost anything.
Darrell dug a swimming pool with a shovel and wheel barrow and lined it with fiberglass. He started digging around 1950. He made peddle steel guitars, a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat, sling shots and any car part that broke.
Survivors: Wife, Billie Harris of Granbury; daughter, Jeanine Park and husband, Bobby, of Granbury; grandsons, Greg Park and wife, Kim, of McKinney, Darrell Park and wife, Wendy, of Colleyville; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Dortha Silver of Irving; Arlene Durham and husband, Willis, of Athens.
