Barbara Dare Bissell, 85, of Granbury, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 28, 2012.
She was born in Denver, Colo. on March 1, 1927. Dare Bissell graduated from East High School in Denver, Colo. She married Ray C. Bissell on March 19, 1950 in Denver, Colo. They soon moved to Granbury where Ray started a 40-year career with General Dynamics.
Dare volunteered with the Friends of the Library, an organization that supports the local Hood County Library. Dare was very active in organizing the book sales to raise money for library programs. She was dedicated to literacy and the joy of reading a good book. Dare also operated a gift and antique store with her sister Jan for many years.
Dare is survived by her husband Ray C. Bissell, her two sons Bruce and Charley Bissell, Charley’s wife Elise, and her friend and sister Jan McSwain. She was the loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Elena, Amanda, Mary, Braden, Kevin and Andrew.
A memorial service was at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the Hood County Library. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Dare to support the Hood County Library children’s summer reading program. Please call 817-573-3569 for information.
