Aaron Lee Dover Sr. of Granbury, 79, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Granbury.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Acton United Methodist Church. Burial: Acton Cemetery.
Aaron Dover was born in Gorman on Jan. 15, 1934, to Verlee Robertson Dover and Devoe Dover, the middle child of three children and the only son. He grew up in Carbon and moved to Stephenville in 1951 where he graduated from Stephenville High School the same year. He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1956.
He attended Tarleton State College from 1956 to 1957 where he met Wilma Jean Sherrard. They were married at First United Methodist Church, Hico, on July 7, 1957. They then moved to Lubbock, where he attended Texas Tech University and earned a BS Industrial Engineering in 1961. They were married over 56 years until his death on Nov. 18, 2013.
During this time he and the family lived in Fort Worth twice, San Antonio, Stephenville, and Aledo, where he served as mayor, while he worked as an engineer at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and General Dynamics in Fort Worth. He retired early in 1980 due to disability from rheumatoid arthritis and eventually moved to deCordova Bend in 1995.
Aaron was a member of Acton United Methodist Church. He enjoyed raising cattle, working outdoors, and reloading ammunition for his gun collection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law, Milton Brown. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at Trinity Mission Nursing Home, Granbury Villa Nursing Home, Lake Granbury Medical Center and Mission Hospice for their loving care.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife Jean; two sons, Aaron Lee Dover, Jr., and his wife, Carol of Midland, and Alan Dover, and his wife Jeaneth of Flint; two sisters: Mrs. Doris Brown of Granbury, and Mrs. Glenna Geer and her husband Floyd of Abilene; two granddaughters: Courtney Ball, and her husband Clinton of Richardson, and Sarah Jean Dover of Flint; four grandsons: Austin Dover and David Dover, both of Lubbock, Blake Dover and his wife Brooke of Mt. Enterprise, and Bryce Dover of Corpus Christi.
