Tolar Medal of Valor

Tolar Chief of Police R.C. Cox (center) was awarded a Medal of Valor by the city of Tolar Thursday in a surprise ceremony at the Tolar Community Center for actions taken in trying to save a man involved in a Sept. 6 single-vehicle accident near Tolar. Also pictured are Tolar Mayor Terry Johnson (left) and Tolar Municipal Judge Paul D. Hyde. The vehicle had started to catch on fire when Cox arrived. The chief pulled the man out and suffered third-degree burns on three fingertips on his left hand. The victim did not survive injuries he suffered. A plaque presented to Cox, featured the statement, “For displaying great bravery in the face of immediate life-threatening danger, with complete disregard for his own personal safety.” Cox was grateful but humble about the honor. Hyde said, “Heroes – that’s what they do, they kind of shrug it off.”
