Medicare phone scam reported

April 10, 2013

The Texas Attorney General’s Office reported that some recent calls have been made to seniors from people claiming to be affiliated with Medicare and stating they must confirm their Medicare number and bank account information over the phone in order to obtain a replacement Medicare card.

The claims are false.

Federal agencies like Medicare and the Internal Revenue Service never make phone calls offering to provide services or obtain personal information, according to the attorney general.

Never give personal information to any unsolicited telephone caller.
