The Hood County Maritime Response Team provided three divers on Monday and Wednesday last week as a mutual aid to Palo Pinto County during the search for a Coppell student who was missing at the time after diving off a cliff into Possum Kingdom Lake.
The body of the student, 17-year-old Jacob Logan, was discovered at a depth of 60-64 feet by divers from Travis County at 9:21 p.m. on Oct. 18. He had been missing since Oct. 14 when he went diving with friends.
Chief Deputy Biff Temple, who oversees the Maritime Response Team as part of the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, said the Travis County divers had dry suits that enabled them to remain underwater for longer periods of time.
A robotic camera was used in the murky water to help locate the body, Temple said. A Texas Parks and Wildlife boat with a special sonar on board was also called in for the search.
“The visibility was 30 to 40 feet,” Temple said. “Then when it was dark, they needed lights.
The Maritime Response Team currently has four active team members.
