The SmartPower Worshop sponsored by the National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Hood County Library, 222 N. Travis Street.

Pre-registration is not mandatory, but will help plan seating and materials distribution. Those interested in attending can email: [email protected] or call 855-266-3728.

The program covers the best way to hire contractors, how to check them out, what should actually be in your contract, the building permit process, how to set up payment schedules, insurance issues you may not know about, how to deal with problems that may arise, change orders, lien releases and a whole lot more.

Officials state that it doesn’t matter where you are in your project. Those attending will learn how to protect yourself now and in the future.
