A former Hood County woman who was severely injured when the car she was riding in was struck by a commuter train in Haltom City died a week later in Fort Worth’s John Peter Smith Hospital, according to close friends and other sources.
Amanda Moore, 37, of Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website. Moore attended school in Granbury. She moved to Tarrant County in about 2010.
Moore suffered major head injuries after she and another female passenger from Hood County, Devon Lewis, were ejected from the vehicle.
The car was hit by the train at about 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 1 as the male driver tried to cross the railroad tracks on Carson Street near Highway 121, according to Fort Worth resident Marty Vaughn. Moore was his former girlfriend, Vaughn said.
“She was my best friend,” Vaughn said. “I don’t think I came across anybody that didn’t like her.”
Vaughn said that Lewis was recently released from Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
He said the driver, a Fort Worth resident, has also been released from medical care.
An information officer with the Haltom City police said the driver’s name is not being released. He said the crash is being investigated, and it’s “unknown” if criminal charges will be filed.
Moore, with an address listed on Longvue Avenue in Fort Worth, was not currently employed, but her usual occupation was as a home health care worker, Vaughn said.
“She looked forward to doing it,” Vaughn said of her profession. “She was a loving, caring person.”
Juanda Moore of Granbury, who said she was not related to Amanda but knew her well, described her not only as outgoing but also as “high spirited.”
“She never let anything get her down,” Juanda Moore said. “Everyone who knew her loved her. She was very much a people person. Everybody loved her to death.”
A memorial service was scheduled for yesterday evening at Trinity Park in Fort Worth. Amanda’s body was cremated.
Amanda was born Dec. 20, 1975. She is survived by two daughters, 18-year-old Lacy McNew of Haltom City and 15-year-old Dusti Osborn, also of Tarrant County, along with grandfather Charlie Owens and stepfather Raymond Martin, both of Fort Worth.
