The recent recruiting effort by the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department led to four additional firefighters who are now in rookie school, Fire Chief Darrell Grober said.
Three recruits were already going through rookie school, which is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus some Saturdays. That training takes four months. Grober said they are first voted on by the other firefighters to join the ongoing rookie school as probationary members.
Grober said the rookies’ probationary period will be six months. After that the current active firefighters will vote on each new recruit once more, deciding if they will be added to the active crew.
“We’re thrilled we’ve gotten that many voted in as a result of the recruiting drive,” Grober said, noting there are currently about 45 active firefighters with the GVFD. “The four guys voted in on one night was fantastic. I hope we can continue to get new volunteers.”
