The Firefighter of the Year for the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department is also a veteran officer with the Granbury Police Department.

During the annual Christmas party and awards ceremony recently at Station No. 1, Brent Blackman was voted by his peers as Firefighter of the Year for 2013. He has been a member of the city’s fire department since July 2002, according to Fire Chief Darrell Grober, who was once again elected as fire chief on Jan. 2. Grober has served as fire chief since he was first elected in 2007.

Blackman has been a police officer since January 2005.

Mack Bennett was re-elected as assistant fire chief.

The GVFD Rookie of the Year award was won by Chase Roop, who became a firefighter in October 2012.

The GVFD’s other two elected positions also stayed the same after the voting, with Matt Hohon as secretary and Marty Marciniak as treasurer.
