A former Hood County resident has been arrested in West Virginia, charged with failing to register there as a sex offender, Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Johnny Rose said.

Karl Jeffery Petrie, 32, was taken into custody by West Virginia authorities, Rose said Wednesday. He is facing a third-degree felony count.

Rose said the address Petrie failed to notify Hood County authorities about is in Buckhannon, W.V.

“Petrie will be (transported) back to the Hood County Sheriff’s Office Jail after extradition is addressed by the West Virginia courts,” Rose said.

The lieutenant noted that all convicted sex offenders are required to notify the Sheriff’s Office with any change of address, and any such failure to comply becomes a criminal offense.
