It started as a controlled burn that got out of hand Sunday afternoon and spread to a well house and two old boats, Fire Marshal Ray Wilson said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze off Billings Road southeast of Tolar.
The burn in the barrel was legal, Wilson said, but the fire ignited the grass and destroyed the nearby well house and two boats, he said. A Tolar firefighter was transported to the hospital for heat-related problems. He was treated and released, Wilson said.
Sunday evening, firefighters from Hood and Somervell counties responded to a fire off County Road 326 in the Fort Spunky area in far southern Hood County. An old barn burned along with about five acres. An electric line apparently triggered the blaze, Wilson said.
Firefighters responded to at least 20 fireworks-related grass fires over the July 4 holidays.
