Drive benefitting families of officers starts 9 a.m. today

August 17, 2013

A project to raise money to help the families of law officers Chad Davis and Lance McLean continues today at Walmart.

McLean died on June 29 from a gunshot wound. Davis was wounded during a shootout with the suspect.

World Wear Project is partnering with police and the Sheriff’s Office for shoe and clothing drives, and the items accepted include shoes, clothing, belts, purses, backpacks, kitchen items, toys and stuffed animals.

“For every pound (of donated items) they get, they’re going to pay them for it,” said organizer DeeDee Brown, a Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Saturday’s event will be staged 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, under a canopy next to a large World Wear Project truck, Brown said.
