The Hood County Crimes Against Children Task Force made two recent arrests in connection with sexual crimes against children, according to District Attorney Rob Christian.
The task force’s most recent arrest came on Jan. 4 in a case involving a victim who was 7 years old at the time of the alleged crime, and previously knew the man accused, Christian said.
David Carl Browning, 62, of the 3700 block of Hartwood Drive in the Port Ridglea East subdivision, is facing a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Hood County Jail records show.
Browning had been indicted on Jan. 2, the district attorney said.
“Task force members executed a search warrant at Browning’s residence with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, Company B, and the Texas Highway Patrol,” Christian said. “The alleged victim was interviewed at the Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center in Granbury.”
Browning posted a $25,000 bond and was released from the Hood County Jail on Jan. 10.
In the other recent case handled by the task force, James Bradley Smith, 51, of Tolar, was arrested on Jan. 2 and charged with two second-degree felony offenses – indecency with a child-sexual contact, and sexual assault of a child.
“Members were assisted by the Texas Rangers during the investigation, which included the execution of three search warrants,” Christian stated. “The 15-year-old victim was interviewed at the Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center in Granbury, and was a known acquaintance of Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith is currently in the Hood County Jail on two $40,000 bonds. The victim came forward on Jan. 1, 2013.”
Smith had an outstanding warrant out of Dallas County on a Class A misdemeanor charge of purchasing or furnishing alcohol to a minor, booking records show.
The task force, housed at the District Attorney’s Office, was formed by Christian and Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds on May 29 last year to investigate allegations of child abuse in Hood County. The three-member team consists of two deputies and the district attorney’s investigator.
