Because of recent rainfall and higher humidity, Hood County Judge Darrell Cockerham has lifted the burn ban that had been put in place on Dec. 11, Fire Marshal Brian Fine announced Friday afternoon.
The drought index numbers have dropped by more than 100 points since the rain that came on Christmas morning, Fine said. “After speaking with the judge it was decided that due to the recent rains, humidity being hihg and the forecast for the next week being more of the same, that the burn ban is lifted.”
With the (National Weather Service) predicting more rain and minimal wind, the fire danger is going to be low for the next 7-10 days. If conditions change we can ask for a ban to be put back in place.”
