Copper wire stolen north of Granbury

Theft of valuable metals, such as copper, has become a popular activity for thieves in recent times, and the two latest incidents are the Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week.

About 996 feet of copper wire was stolen between the hours of 8:30 p.m. on July 8 and 6:30 a.m. on July 9 from 5761 Weatherford Highway. The wire taken is valued at $2,157.

The other copper theft, likely that same night, was from 450 Loon Drive in the Whippoorwill Bay subdivision, also north of Granbury. Someone removed the coils and copper tubing from an exterior air-conditioning unit. The estimated value is $2,000.

Anyone with information on the thefts can call Crime Stoppers at 817-573-TIPS, or go online ( to submit a tip anonymously. You can also send the tip by text message, including tip129, to 274637. Upon arrest and indictment, you could receive a reward of up to $1,000.
