Hood County commuters who use Ranch-to-Market Road 2871 driving to Fort Worth will see road construction from now through late this year.
The south end of the road begins at the intersection of Highway 377 and Chapin School Road, at Benbrook Middle School.
The roadway is being reconstructed and paved with new asphalt. Shoulders will be expanded to 8 feet wide on each side, Information Officer Val Lopez said Wednesday afternoon. In addition, turning lanes will be put in place at various intersections.
The $2 million project will stretch 1.4-miles from Highway 377 to the Union Pacific railroad in Benbrook.
During the majority of construction, one lane of traffic on the two-lane roadway will be maintained in each direction, Lopez said. When closures force traffic to one lane, flaggers will be on scene to direct traffic.
TxDOT encourages drivers to take note of all warning signs in the construction zone while crews are working on the project, to ensure safety.
