Almost anyone can do something to be of service to others, and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) can be a great outlet for those with that in mind.
CERT educates its members about disaster preparedness. It trains them in basic disaster response skills, according to CERT coordinator Stephanie Parker.
“Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members will have the ability to assist others in their neighborhood, workplace and community following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help,” Parker said.
A perfect first step for anyone who may be interested will be a CERT meet and greet event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Annex 1, 1410 W. Pearl St. in Granbury.
“Stephanie is ‘revitalizing’ the CERT and moving forward with plans to have the team fully operational very shortly,” said Brian Fine, Emergency Management Coordinator for Hood County.
CERT volunteers must be at least 15 years old.
