John Robert and Carolyn Carter Allen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their cabin in Northern New Mexico. The Honey Grove High School sweethearts were married Aug. 9, 1963.
The couple lived two years in Arlington where john earned his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and Carolyn taught mathematics at Carter Junior High School. In 1965 they moved to Amarillo where John was an engineer at the Pantex Plant for 40 years. Carolyn taught mathematics at Tascosa High School, was a stay-at-home mom for 10 years, and later returned to teaching math at Texas State Technical College and Amarillo College. In 2008 the couple retired to Granbury.
John and Carolyn have been blessed with three daughters: Traci Scribner and husband Michael of Richmond, Va.; Andrea Fritz of Austin; and Jonna Byars and husband Timothy of Lubbock. Their blessings continue with seven grandchildren: Connor and Ellen Fritz; Laura, Jacob and Mary Byars; and Zachary and Bethany Scribner.
The family will gather to continue the celebration in Granbury during the Labor Day holiday.
