Each year, donated wreaths are delivered to national veteran cemeteries around the country as part of the Wreaths Across America program. Thousands of volunteers take a quiet moment to show their gratitude and appreciation during the holiday season by placing wreaths at the grave sites of veterans.

This year’s ceremony will be Dec. 14, 2013.

This project not only benefits our fallen, but for every wreath sold the local Blue Star Mothers group will receive $5.

Last year 114 wreaths were sold from this area and the local Blue Star Mothers organization received $570.

The wreaths are $15 each and can be grave specific, however you can not order grave specific wreaths online.

The deadline for ordering is Nov. 30, 2013. This is a great gift for the holiday season for someone who gave so much. No matter if they served for 24 years or 4. No matter if they saw battle or sat behind a desk – they served their country and deserve our respect.

The local contributions will focus on the DFW cemetery and Fort Sam again this year unless you have a request for another cemetery involved in the program.

If you have any questions or would like to order a wreath, please contact Sharon Bryce at [email protected] or 830-832-6254.

Bryce can help with the ordering process especially if it’s a grave specific order.

“Please consider helping, we had 9,990 wreaths last year at Fort Sam and there are over 120,000 graves there. Our goal is to make sure every grave in every national cemetery is covered,” Bryce stated.
