Silent auction for art to help schools

November 9, 2013

“In the Spirit of Giving” is the theme of the second annual creative holiday project, which features beautiful trees in gallery windows around the square, and also benefits local art programs in the schools.

Over 20 regional artists are creating and donating individual works of art to decorate the trees. Each artwork will be part of a silent auction, which runs Nov. 15 through Dec. 15. The silent auction bid sheets will be near the tree displaying art in Artefactz, Uptown Art, Dora Langdon Art Center and Your Private Collection Art Gallery as well as other locations.

Sponsored by Galleries of Granbury, proceeds will go to the three middle schools’ art departments. Last year Granbury Middle School, Acton Middle School and the ninth grade school’s art departments received $1,000 each in art supplies and equipment.

The works include blown glass, sculpture, jewelry and wall art by artists Cynthia James, Aaron Thane Tate, Sharon Markwardt, Elise Techentine, and Stacey Watkins among others. The trees will also include selected works of students from the schools.
