Sean Mitchell to entertain

Thursday brings the February meeting of the Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club (PPWC). Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting coming to order at 10. Reservations are required and are due by noon Monday: 817-573-2641.

Ladies will enjoy “Rock ‘n’ Roll with Sean Mitchell” as live entertainment for the day and will remember Sean from his days at Granbury Live. Lunch will follow the show.

At a recent hospitality work day, Linda Metsger and the Hospitality Committee fashioned photo books that will be table centerpieces on meeting day and available for purchase at $15 each. Come early to shop.

The PPWC actively supports charities in our community as well as making generous donations to our clubhouse’s upkeep and furnishings. A recent PPWC donation purchased a piano for the Terrace Room, which residents will enjoy for years to come.

Pecan’s ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out) will also meet next Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Brazos Room. A good meal and superior conversation and fellowship are on the menu for the day as gentlemen are encouraged not only to attend, but also to bring ideas for future programs at ROMEO gatherings.

Outgoing Pecan board president Ron Cotton will address the Breakfast Club Wednesday morning giving a “state of the association review.” Come at 8 a.m. for breakfast and the program.

A big evening comes to Pecan on Feb. 23 when “President’s Choice” takes the stage. Formerly known as the President’s Ball, this new format event will honor Pecan’s outgoing board president and members.

The party is titled “A Night at the Casino,” and good food and live music will complement the evening which begins at 6 p.m. An awards ceremony will take place at 7:30 with drawings for prizes and gifts rounding out the night at 10 p.m.

All Pecaners are invited; call 817-573-2641 as reservations are a must to attend this “Las Vegas style” party.

Tune in to PCAN TV Channel 28 to see video of candidates for Pecan’s board of directors presenting individual platforms. Election day and Pecan’s annual meeting come on March 2.

Pecan’s fire chief Dave Raffa says that our Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to 204 emergency calls in 2012, including 76 airport landing zones for air ambulances in Pecan. Chief Raffa also sends his thanks to Pecan Foods (and its patrons) for its recent donation of $874, representing one percent of grocery sales for the fourth quarter of 2012.

The by-laws and governance committee sign-up sheet and committee resolution are at the clubhouse information desk for any member who wishes to volunteer to participate on this committee, which is appointed by Pecan’s board of directors. The board will choose the committee at Pecan’s annual meeting next month.

If you would like to be considered for this place of service in our community, please sign up before Feb. 23.

Additional volunteers for “adopt-a-hole” are needed for Pecan’s golf course. If working on Mondays and during special events is something you would like to do, call the pro shop: 817-573-2645.

Golf dates on the calendar this week are the LGA’s “odd holes” on Tuesday and the MGA’s “pick-ur-partner best ball” on Thursday.

We know Pecan is full of talented folks, and March 15 will bring a showcase of such. Open auditions for the show continue tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. in the clubhouse ballroom.
