Safe room rebate signup site open for Hood residents

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has opened an online waiting list for the North Central Texas Safe Room Rebate Program, according to Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.

The safe rooms are specially built to offer protection from severe storms and tornados, Deeds explained. He said that a rebate of up to $3,000 is possible.

Hood County residents who have already submitted an application for the Metro Safe Room Rebate Program will be notified that their application was received and do not need to reapply. That application process is now closed.

However, the waiting list for the NCTCOG safe rooms opened Tuesday.

Applicants must be pre-approved before entering into contract or construction of a safe room.
