Just across the northern Hood County line, Mary Kemp is ready for guests at the 33rd annual Shaw-Kemp Open House in southern Parker County. The free open house is planned from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks (no alcohol), and enjoy the day. Bluebonnets, historic buildings and antique cars draw hundreds of visitors every year. “We have people come from out-of-state and even out-of-the-country,” according to Kemp. Plenty of parking is available. Buildings open for tour include the barber shop and bath house, jail and sheriff’s office, 1856 Shaw-Kemp log cabin, the 1918 Jordan Shaw House, grocery store and post office, deBeauford-Kemp house, school and church building, dentist’s office, corn crib, blacksmith shop and the bank. The property is located on the east side of Highway 51, between Granbury and Weatherford.
