Key, Croft, Leggett are winners

Pecan Plantation’s Archery Association announces the winners of its most recent 2D/3D tournament.

Congratulations to tournament winners John Key, compound bow; Ron Croft, bare bow, and Jim Leggett, cross bow.

Sy Rosenfeld reports that the turnout for compound bows was good, and more bare bow and cross bow competitors would be welcome at future events.

Gratitude goes to Kim Black for serving as head chef for the day.

The next event at the range comes March 29 with an air rifle field target match. The day begins at 10 a.m., and participants are asked to come early to help set up and sight in rifles.

Wednesday morning’s Breakfast Club will welcome Brandy Herr, author of “Haunted Granbury,” when she presents evidence of possible ghostly images. Come at 8 a.m. for breakfast and the program.

Thursday brings the March gathering of the Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club (PPWC) with social time starting at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting coming to order at 10. This meeting is always a favorite as it holds a spring fashion show with clothing from local boutiques. Lunch will follow the business meeting and clothing parade.

The tables will be adorned with various styles of birdhouses, all of which will be available for sale, along with door prize tickets, before the meeting begins. Come early to shop.

Another big date on the PPWC calendar is March 29 for “Kickin’ It Up With Friends,” the ladies’ annual boot-scootin’ fundraiser. Social time debuts at 5:30 p.m. with dinner being served at 7, and live music by the J.P. and Friends Band going from 7:30 to 11. The silent auction will last from 5:30 to 8 containing both “little and big Texas raffle ticket sales.”

All Pecaners, whether PPWC members or not, are welcome at this event, and reservations are a must. Reserve a table: 817-573-2641.

Congratulations to new Pecan board members Dan Crise, John Jaeckle and Doug Ward. Serving as board officers for this year are Rod Heitschmidt, president; Wynette Burns, vice-president; Beverly Franzen, secretary; Ray Lewis, treasurer. Best wishes to these directors for a productive and successful tenure.

Thank you to retiring board members Bruce Lockwood, Don Fairweather and Hal Spottswood for your service to our community during the past three years.

Volunteers make much of Pecan go around, and committee signups for 2014-2015 are underway.

Committee sign-up sheets are at the clubhouse front desk and will be available until 7 p.m. March 30. Signing up is a must.

The Ladies Golf Association (LGA) will hold its first guest day of 2014 on Tuesday with a tee time at 9 a.m., and the annual Sadie Hawkins Tournament is coming quickly on March 25. The deadline for tournament sign up is also Tuesday, and registration forms are available both in the pro shop and in “The Columns.”

In Men’s Golf Association (MGA) news, Thursday brings scramble play. Furthermore, congratulations go to Don Davidson for a hole-in-one on number 8 and to Gerry Hicks for a hole-in-one on number 11.

George Gerdes will teach a CPR certification class on March 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Emergency Medical Service building. The class is $25 for a two year certification and is open to members and guests. Sign up at the PAC: 817-573-7952.
