AARP providing free income tax help

Free federal tax preparation and e-filing is available from AARP Tax-Aide teams.

Ron Petersen, Granbury Tax-Aide coordinator, says the service is available through April 13. Contact one of the following locations to schedule your tax preparation:

Hood County Senior Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 817-573-5533, 501 E. Moore St.

Hood County Library on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 817-573-3569, 222 N. Travis St.

People should bring their Social Security identification, last year’s (2011) tax return and all W-2s, 1099’s and any other information pertaining to their 2012 earnings.

PROM DREAMS COME TRUE WITH FREE DRESSES MARCH 2

The third annual Prom Dreams event offers a “shopping” experience for those needing a little help to attend the high school prom.

Proms dresses of all shapes, sizes and colors have been collected for the Prom Dreams event today. The doors will be open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Christian Service Center, across the street from Granbury High School.

The one-day opportunity will offer free prom dresses and accessories for girls who are looking for prom attire.

Shoppers will enjoy snacks, punch, swag bags and a free dress. Door prizes will also be given.

Amber Picasso (512-921-0756) is coordinating the event with Jonna Eccles (817-573-0316), from the Christian Service Center.

Hood County Child Health Summit coming March 7

Be among the first to see the Hood County-specific findings from the 2012 community-wide Children’s Health Assessment & Planning Survey.

The Hood County Child Health Summit is Thursday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Granbury Resort Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St.

Event registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

PANCAKE SUPER MARCH 9 WILL HELP SENIOR CENTER

A pancake supper Saturday, March 9 will benefit the Hood County Senior Center, 501 E. Moore St. The event runs from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

CHILD, HUMAN TRAFFICKING PRESENTATION MARCH 8

Deena Graves will have a program on child and human traffacking at the White Chapel, Acton Methodist Church. Graves is part of the Trafficking 911 group in Fort Worth.

The program is at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Bridgitte Eichler at [email protected]
