Good Citizen awards given

Nine area high school seniors recently received the DAR Good Citizen Award. The Elizabeth Crockett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Granbury presented the awards at its monthly meeting.

The students were recognized for good citizenship qualities including dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.

The winning students were selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.

Winning students include Phoebe Wallace, Mykala Madson, Rhiana Michou, Madison Rhodes, Ashley Ryan, Dalina Fuentes Escobar, Tyler Jenson, Jessica Hedges and Ana Olvera.

Students write a 550 word essay on a nationally chosen subject regarding good citizenship. This year’s topic was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving it: How are our freedoms and responsibilities as good citizens changing?”

Students read their essays before the DAR members, parents and friends, and were presented with certificates and Good Citizen Award pins. A reception followed.
