Fall Book Sale will benefit library

October 10, 2012

The Friends of the Library (FOL) organization is preparing for the annual Fall Book Sale next week.

Sales begin Friday, Oct. 19 for FOL Members from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Everyone is invited to shop Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and at the popular “Box Day” on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 – 4 p.m., During this time, you can select as many books as you can squeeze into a box for only $5. The boxes are provided at the library.

Thousands of good books are donated by Hood County residents to the library each year. The library staff selects titles for the library collection, then gives the remainder to the FOL for its sales.

Volunteers from the FOL membership list the books, inspect them, clean the books, sort, price and shelve books for two days prior to the sales.

Boxes and canvas tote bags are provided for the convenience of shoppers. Visa, MasterCard and Discover Card are accepted for payment, as well as checks.

“The FOL would like to thank the many volunteers that help set up and work the sales and then, spend hours clearing the meeting room after the sales,” said spokeswoman Char Hitz.

“We also appreciate the cooperation of Courtney Kincaid and her library staff, and the volunteers also.

“These sales are a true community involvement where book lovers meet and all of the proceeds benefit improvements to the building, summer children’s programs, Books for Babies, scholarships, computer upgrades, security systems and maintenance of the library,” Hitz explained.

The Book Store at the library will be open as usual during the Friday and Saturday sales.
