Artists plan benefit to help with tornado recovery efforts

Art With a Heart is planned by the Galleries of Granbury on the square Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at Granbury Theatre Company, 110 N. Crockett St.

Money raised will be given to tornado victims through Mission Granbury.

Participating galleries including Artefactz/Art Aloft, Dora Lee Langdon Center, Gallery at Granbury Theatre Company, Lake Granbury Art Association, Yeats-Duke Working Museum-Gallery and Your Private Collection. Donations

The Mission Granbury warehouse is now at the Show Barn at Reunion Fairgrounds, 641 Reunion Court, Granbury. All material donations will be received there Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Mission Granbury needs the following items to help families displaced in the tornado.

-New or like new furniture.

-New or like new appliances-Window type A/C units.

-Power tools.

- Chain link fence and matal poles.

- Wood fencing and posts.

- Tree trimmers.

- Gift cards for building materials.

- Heavy duty boxes.

- Packing or duct tape.

Volunteers

Flatbed trailers are needed daily. The trailers will be used to pickup limited donations off site and to move materials at the warehouse.

Drivers should go directly to Rancho Brazos from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily to receive assignments.

Drivers need not lift anything. Volunteers will be assigned to do the lifting.

There is still an urgent need to remove a huge pile of debris (mostly tree limbs and shrubs) from Indian Harbor. The pile is 10 yards wide by 60 yards long. Please respond if you can help. Contact Jack at 682-936-9747, [email protected]

The Mission Granbury tent on Sundown Lane at Tumbleweed Drive in Rancho Brazos needs 4-5 volunteers each Saturday and Sunday from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please respond to let Vince Gonzales know if you can help at 214-354-2337.

Volunteers are needed to sort clothes at the Mission Granbury office or help with answering the phones Monday-Friday at 1310 Weatherford Highway, #120, Granbury, 817-579-6866. Please call and sign up to take a shift.

Bilingual (English/Español) volunteers are needed at the warehouse at the Fair Grounds Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon. Contact Jack 682-936-9747.

On-site volunteers are needed, especially in the Rancho Brazos subdivision. The damage is so widespread (affecting 100+ homes) that clean-up time is estimated to take over a year. Those wishing to volunteer may do so through their churches or by contacting Vince Gonzales at 214-354-2337, to discuss the current needs and your capabilities – and to register. You will be required to have insurance and to sign a waiver of liability.

Workers doing recovery work should be sure their tetanus shots are up to date. Workers are advised to wear LONG PANTS while working for safety reasons. If needed, shots may be obtained at Texas EMS, 2200 Commercial Lane, Granbury. Call 817-279-1408 to make arrangements.
