The Hood County Horticulture Committee is proud to announce that it is time for the annual Hood County Pecan Show.
This year will mark the 53rd rendition of the Hood County Pecan Show.
On Dec. 3, 1959 at the Legion Hall the first Hood County Pecan Show was held under the leadership of County Extension Agent Keith Hillman.
The crop this year has been much better than last year’s with many homeowners reporting bumper crops. However, in some cases the quality may not be as good as we would like because of some dry conditions in late summer.
The pecan show is open to any orchard owners or homeowners. All entries are due by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Homeowners or orchard owners, who have a minimum of 45 pecans per variety, need to bring their unshelled samples in a bag with their name, address and phone number to Hood County Annex I, 1410 W. Pearl St.
Judging will take place Wednesday at 3 p.m.
This year, we will once again be having a Pecan Bake-Off open to all ages. Categories include: Cakes, Candy, Cookies, Pies, Quick Breads and Snacks. Entries in the Pecan Bake-Off will be due Wednesday by noon at Annex I.
Entries in the Pecan Bake-Off should include a typed copy of the recipe, and dishes must be displayed on a paper or aluminum plate. Judging will take place at 1 p.m.
