Granbury’s MVP (Most Valuable Parent)

April 13, 2013

Common wisdom says that one person can make a difference in a community. In Granbury, we have seen that proved true many times.

One such person has not received nearly the recognition or accolades he deserves. This is Mr. Jerry Don Hodges, the branch manager of First National Bank on Hwy. 144.

Jerry has three children who have all been very involved in and graduated from Granbury High School. He and his wife Susan have been deeply involved with their kids in school activities, especially athletics. In fact, Jerry has been president of the Pirate Booster Club during each of their children’s high school tenures.

It is a pretty fair wager that Jerry Hodges has been as responsible for promoting and raising funds for Granbury High School athletic programs as any parent in school history.

The most recent example is the 2013 Project Graduation golf tournament that Jerry chaired and brought back as a fund-raiser after a two-year hiatus. The tournament was held at the newly revamped Pecan Plantation Country Club course and was a great success, raising over $10,000 for the worthy cause of providing a safe haven for the senior students on graduation night.

So let us give a collective community tip of the hat to Jerry Hodges for all the unheralded and selfless hours of service he has spent helping our high school students have a memorable and productive experience.

Way to go Jerry, and may you pass the torch to a parent just as committed as you have been!

Dr. Tom Hamilton
