Acton Elementary fifth-grader Tiffany Wynee won the Area Spelling Bee Wednesday.

The contest pitted campus-level winners from seven Granbury campuses. Wynne and Alexander Call, a third-grader at Oak Woods School, battled for 21 rounds before she emerged the victor.

Other competitors were: Landree Chiles, sixth-grader at Acton Middle School; Jaden Couto, fifth-grader at Brawner Intermediate School; Tyler Ellis, fourth-grader at Baccus Elementary School; Brooke Parsons, third-grader at Mambrino School; and Daniel Shelton, eighth-grader at Granbury Middle School.

As the Hood County area champion, Wynne will advance to the Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee March 20 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. That contest will feature more than 30 contestants who won at the area level. The regional winner will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition in Washington, D.C. in May.
